The Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association held the "OPAA Master Class 2026" on 23 September 2026 under the theme "Powering Hong Kong's Next-Generation City: Energy Transition, Green Finance, and the Path Forward". Two Outstanding Alumni, Mr Chiang Tung-keung and Mr Jack Chan Hoi, JP, were invited to share their industry insights with alumni, students, and staff members.
Mr Dennis Ho Chiu-ping, President of the Association, welcomed the participants. He thanked the two guest speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to return to their alma mater and share their expertise and experience with the PolyU community. He also encouraged participants to exchange ideas, gain new perspectives, and foster connections during the event.
Mr Chiang Tung-keung, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of CLP Holdings Limited, has extensive experience in executive leadership, strategy and governance, and sustainability. He outlined the climate vision centred on powering an orderly transition, and analysed how Hong Kong can safeguard energy security, boost resilience, and meet growing demand driven by AI and digitisation during its green transition. As Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan expedites development of the Northern Metropolis, Mr Chiang emphasised that a stable and reliable energy supply is fundamental to economic development, industrial upgrading, and improving people's livelihood.
Mr Jack Chan Hoi is Chairman of EY China, Regional Managing Partner of EY Greater China, and Member of The Global Network Council of Ernst & Young. His areas of focus include innovation, finance, and climate change and sustainability services. He examined the gap between climate ambition and execution, using examples to illustrate how enterprises can embed strategic planning, AI and data applications, risk assessment and other measures into their operations to seize opportunities and create value. Focusing on Hong Kong's strategic roles, Mr Chan pointed out that sustainability, finance, leadership, technology, and business are closely interconnected, and together constitute key drivers of next-generation city development.
The panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Qiang Wu, Professor and Associate Head (Research) of the School of Accounting and Finance, and Director of the Research Centre for ESG Advancement at PolyU. Participants raised a wide range of questions on topics including increasing the share of zero-carbon energy, addressing geopolitical risks, leveraging Hong Kong's role as a "super value-adder", enhancing students' competitiveness, and promoting cross-border financing and real estate tokenisation. Through extended discussions among the speakers and participants, the event offered a multifaceted exploration of the city's future, broadening perspectives while promoting professional exchange.
